生花

日本是世界上唯一用“生花（生け花）”这一词语来表示插花的国家。“生”即“生命、活着”的意思。正如我们要生存下去一样，我们在插花过程中，被心灵之花所滋润并回归自然。通过这种相互依存，人与自然才能同相辉映。“生花”表达的是人的心灵，它可以说是在与自然共生之中，产生了与日本艺术共通的审美意识。而“自然、空灵、沉静、朴素”的禅宗美学观则是日本人美学的原点。
